Souls in Rhythm

Souls in Rhythm at the Haven Social Club in Edmonton Alberta

With ferocious bass lines, sing-able melodies and passionate vocals, Souls in Rhythm (a.k.a. SiR) combine generous portions of funk & soul with elements of R&B, blues and rock to deliver a sound that is all their own. An anomaly on the prairies, this funk/soul squad is comprised of vocalist Scott Henderson on keyboards, Caleb Roddick on bass, Spencer Cheyne on drums and Craig Newnes on lead/rhythm guitar. SiR delivers a high-energy live show with outstanding musicianship that impresses every audience they play for – resistance is futile, as you will be forced to move to their funky beats and will be left wanting more! Earlier this year, SiR released their sophomore album, “Funklore” – the lead single off the album, “Girl Work”, was recently released to radio stations nationwide – the track was mixed by New York’s Ken Lewis (Kanye West, Janet Jackson, Usher, John Legend) and serves up a lighter side of SiR’s songwriting. Expanding the boundaries of funk and soul, Souls in Rhythm proudly pay homage to tradition while clearly welcoming the future and delivering their sound to the world!

Souls in Rhythm (a.k.a. SiR) is a funk/soul squad based in Calgary, Alberta, and is comprised of vocalist Scott Henderson on keyboards, the ferocious funk of bassist Caleb Roddick, the dominant soul beats of Spencer Cheyne, and the precise lead/rhythm guitar of Craig Newnes.

Since their inception, SiR has always maintained a focus on songwriting, delivering inspiring lyrics, sing-able melodies and deeply passionate vocals. As a result they’ve earned much critical acclaim. They are finalists of the National Songwriting Competition and winners of the CBC Showcase Competition. Upon releasing their debut album (“Can’t Fake The Funk”- 2006), SiR won Astral Media’s Vibe 98.5 FM’s $100,000 Unsigned Vibe Songwriting Competition.

Along with outstanding songs, SiR’s high-energy, audience-involving live performances showcase their impressive musicality. SiR’s musical influences come from the masters of funk and soul – Sly & The Family Stone, Parliament and Prince, to name a few – providing them the base on which to further create their own unique sound.

SiR has performed across Canada at many high profile events, including The Banff World Television Festival, NXNE, Capital EX, NewMusicWest and at the Western Canadian Music Awards. They have also been the choice opening act for several current hitmakers. As the 2008 Juno Awards were held in Calgary, SiR took a major role in the festivities – lead singer, Scott Henderson (also the founder of 2 time Juno nominee, R&B vocal group The EarthTONES), played in the Juno Cup, the group performed as part of Juno Fest, and they were featured in the media as one of Calgary’s rising musical gems.
