Barry Greenfield is from Vancouver. His first album was recorded at RCA Studio B in Hollywood, where hundreds upon hundreds of the world’s most-known American hit records were made. It features the cream of the crop of Los Angeles session players – Larry Carlton (guitar), Joe Osborn (bass), Larry Muhoberac (keyboards), Russ Kunkel (drums) and Milt Holland (percussion) on this track, and Jim Gordon (drums) and Dean Parks (guitar) on others. Arrangements are by Grammy-winning Jimmie Haskell, who has worked with the top names in entertainment.

“Free The Lady” has been #1 on my Most Wanted List since 1973. I heard it no more than three times on 1280 CHAM, Hamilton. I liked it instantly, and have never forgotten it over the last 35 years. I looked for it in every record store I’ve ever been in, without finding it, or meeting anyone who had ever heard of the song, the artist or his album. The song is not listed anywhere in any record catalogue or on any radio chart.

As it turns out, the track I heard on the radio was on an RCA radio sampler, and back when DJs could pick their own music, one of them decided to spin this track. A single of this song was withdrawn by RCA, and hardly anyone got to hear it. Well, now is your chance.
“Free The Lady” is every bit as good as I remembered it, maybe even better. It is mastered here from the first playing of a mint record on which I opened the shrink wrap.
